Yay-Its Friday!
It's been a long week at our house, but one that began and will hopefully end well. After a spending Saturday night with the Estes clan (you can check out some Kaylee pics over at Leslie's blog, we ventured over to Morton on Sunday after church to meet up with Papa and Grandma for lunch. Papa's birthday was on the 15th, so it was fun to have a birthday lunch at Cracker Barrel. Well, most of it was fun. We had an incident in the bathroom. Kaylee is deathly afraid of public restroom changing stations (I try to avoid them altogether - but very lots of different reasons). Anyway, laying flat on the changing station just freaks her out and she will scream, twist, and try to climb off. This did not go well with a dirty diaper followed by a little girl that decided to start peeing will trying to climb off of the bench. Luckily, after help from grandma, a clean up, and some yummy food, all was well and we had a great time.

Monday was a little rough. We had to be at the hospital by 6 for Kaylee to get tubes put in her ears. She hasn't had a lot of ear infections, but she wasn't responding well to antbiotics. After a visit with we ENT doctor, and a prognosis of fluid in her ears, he recommended tubes. The procedure went well, recovery was a little rough, but we headed home with Elmo doing pretty good.

Late in the afternoon she ended up with her left ear bleeding quite a bit and we headed back to the doctor. No worries, this doesn't happen often. Luckily, the bleeding didn't last long. A little extra care to prevent blood from drying up in the tubes should help prevent the need to take out and replace the tube.

By Wednesday the little miss was pretty much back to normal and excited to head back to daycare. Just another story for the baby book!

RetroPost: One Month Check Up

Thursday, April 22, 2010

I've got a back log of blog posts to try to get posted, the first of which is Kaylee's one month check up.

Kaylee has grown a lot in her first month. After a rough start of not wanting to eat and losing weight, she made a great comeback weighing in at 9 lbs 2 oz. She also grew 1 inch, and is 22 inches long.
We've told more than one person, that she is a great baby - little fussing and only when she's crying when she's hungry or has a wet diaper. As you can tell, this doctor visit didn't really bother her at all.

Two Weeks

Monday, March 22, 2010

Another week has flown by and my how our little girl is changing. Most noticeable (other than generally getting bigger) is her legs.

Here is Kaylee at the hospital (1 day old). Her little breech legs out to the side.

Now, at 2 weeks, they're slowly coming down. We actually got a sleeper on her comfortably today. Other good news - her weight is up to 6 lbs 15 oz. She's a growing girl for sure!

Unfortunately we had to make the trip to the doctor to check out some nasally-breathing issues. It looks like Kaylee has her first respiratory infection. Dr. P isn't concerned and recommends to continue using the nose drops, adding in a little vaporizer, and sleeping in a more upright position. Her temperature was good, her lungs sounded fine, so now we just need a little time for it to run its course.

A little bit of my father in me

Someone likes to sleep just like her daddy...

In other news...the doctor visit went well yesterday. Kaylee is up to 6 lbs 8 oz. Since there was an improvement from our visit on Tuesday, we don't have to worry about any special formula. As long as she continues to gain weight, the doctor is happy!

Dr. Visits

Monday, March 15, 2010

Today marked Kaylee's third outing since coming home last Thursday night. We made it to out pediatrician visit on Friday and we've had blood drawn twice. Our little princess is a little yellow. Doctors are monitoring her bilirubin levels, which tend to be high in preterm babies. So far, so good. Levels were a little high on Saturday, prompting a retest today. In our eyes she seems to be a little less "yellow" but we'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Let's hope for no more blood being drawn, her little heels have enough pricks in them as is. And honestly, if we get the same nurse as we did today, dad may just get a little riled up. Oddly enough, the gentleman who drew blood on Saturday did so gently and with ease. Despite Kaylee crying and watching her in distress, it wasn't an awful experience. Today was not the same. This nurse seemed to be on a mission to get the blood drawn as quickly as possible -- and was a little rough during the process. Kudos to dad for keeping his cool.
