Three weeks old...Daddy had to go back to work today, so mommy and Kaylee are home alone. Planting season is just around the corner. I'm sure the first tractor ride is too!
We spent some quality tummy time this morning. Dishes and laundry are done, now its time to make the grocery list! Kaylee has also been getting some quality nap time in today too. She's had quite a few visitors the past couple of days. I guess it takes a lot out of you to being cute all of the time!

It was a big week for Miss Kaylee. She felt a lot better and her breathing improved over the course of a couple of days. She went with us to my doctor appointment Wednesday afternoon and then to run a couple of errands. She had her first shopping trip to Target and a stop at Buffalo Wild Wings so mom and dad could have lunch. She was a gem and actually slept through the entire trip.
The weather was great on that afternoon so we made our first trek around the block in her new stroller. While Abbey loved the afternoon sun, Kaylee did what she does best these days...sleep!
Thursday was pretty crappy out, so we all stayed home and worked on unpacking some remaining boxes scattered around the house.
Another big day on Friday...lunch with on of Ron's coworkers, then more errands. It's a good thing our little girl likes to ride in the car!

In the past two weeks we've learned a lot about our little girl. And even though she's changing every day, there is one thing we can count on for now. She has a facial expression that can only mean one thing-
- this pursed-lip grin means a poopy diaper is heading your way. So cute, but oh so devious!

It seems like Kaylee has a little bit of mom in her too. A favorite story my parents like to tell is that when I was a baby, I like to sleep with my feet in the air. Well, Kaylee stretches her feet constantly. Its no surprise to us to hear her cooing and look over in the direction of the pack-n-play and see a little foot waving to us.
The other night, I was able to get some photos while Kaylee was chilling on dad's lap. You just can't help but smile...

Another week has flown by and my how our little girl is changing. Most noticeable (other than generally getting bigger) is her legs.
Here is Kaylee at the hospital (1 day old). Her little breech legs out to the side.
Now, at 2 weeks, they're slowly coming down. We actually got a sleeper on her comfortably today. Other good news - her weight is up to 6 lbs 15 oz. She's a growing girl for sure!
Unfortunately we had to make the trip to the doctor to check out some nasally-breathing issues. It looks like Kaylee has her first respiratory infection. Dr. P isn't concerned and recommends to continue using the nose drops, adding in a little vaporizer, and sleeping in a more upright position. Her temperature was good, her lungs sounded fine, so now we just need a little time for it to run its course.

Someone likes to sleep just like her daddy...
In other news...the doctor visit went well yesterday. Kaylee is up to 6 lbs 8 oz. Since there was an improvement from our visit on Tuesday, we don't have to worry about any special formula. As long as she continues to gain weight, the doctor is happy!

Kaylee's first sponge bath went pretty well. We weren't sure what to expect since she HATES having her diaper and/or clothes changed. After the initial unhappiness of being naked, she loved the soothing wash and snuggling when dad was done.

Whew...that first week flew by. And now we're quickly moving through the second. Isn't it amazing how much babies change in such a short period of time?
The doctor visit went pretty well yesterday. Her bilirubin levels had dropped and we don't have to have any more blood tests...I hope that nurse realizes how lucky she is :) Overall, Kaylee is doing well, but has lost some more weight. According to the doctor, preterm babies have a harder time metabolizing food, so despite eating like a horse the past couple of days, this may explain the weight loss. We're headed back tomorrow for a weight recheck and if her weight drops again, she"ll be put on a high calorie diet.

Today marked Kaylee's third outing since coming home last Thursday night. We made it to out pediatrician visit on Friday and we've had blood drawn twice. Our little princess is a little yellow. Doctors are monitoring her bilirubin levels, which tend to be high in preterm babies. So far, so good. Levels were a little high on Saturday, prompting a retest today. In our eyes she seems to be a little less "yellow" but we'll find out for sure tomorrow.
Let's hope for no more blood being drawn, her little heels have enough pricks in them as is. And honestly, if we get the same nurse as we did today, dad may just get a little riled up. Oddly enough, the gentleman who drew blood on Saturday did so gently and with ease. Despite Kaylee crying and watching her in distress, it wasn't an awful experience. Today was not the same. This nurse seemed to be on a mission to get the blood drawn as quickly as possible -- and was a little rough during the process. Kudos to dad for keeping his cool.

I have much to blog about these days. Final house pictures to post. Two wonderful baby showers to recap. Baby pictures to show.
That's right....Kaylee Grace made her entrance into the world one month earlier than expected on March 8, 2010. And what a wonderful surprise she was!
Sunday evening Ron and I carried the "loot" from the second baby shower into the house and deposited on the living room floor. I was suffering from a cold, so rest was in order and we decided to leave everything until the next evening.
A few hours later, after convincing Ron I was indeed having contractions, off to the hospital we went. After some time spent in labor and delivery (5 hours), receiving fluids, monitoring contractions, and not dilating, the doctor did an ultrasound only to find our little princess was breech. A C-section was immediately decided on since my water had broke.
In a little over a half hour later, I was watching our little girl get cleaned up and daddy snapping photos.
We have lots of updates to share, but I'll leave you with these photos for now.
