Sunday Stills: Things with Wings

Sunday, June 28, 2009

I'm pretty lucky, I get to work with things with wings everyday. Here are a few of my favorite shots from this week in the field.

Love the action shot of the dragonfly over the water! The damselflies are neat, too.

What a neat job you must have. I find insects fascinating. Maybe I was an entomologist in a former life.

This reminds me of one of the most interesting things that I have ever seen with dragonflies. I was in a building one time and glanced out the window that overlooked the parking lot. Dozens of dragonflies were dive bombing one particular car in the lot. It happened to be an aquamarine blue color. This seemed to last for hours. When I went out into the lot and looked closely at the car roof, it was covered with eggs. As the dragonflies swooped down, they would touch their tail tips to the surface. They must have thought it was a lake. It happened in Accra, Ghana, West Africa during the dry season. Ever heard of anything like it happening Stateside?

Wow! Excellent close-ups of the dragonflies. I've seen them in their nymph (sp?) stage and they are quite scary/creepy. But when all grown up, they are really beautiful.

Thanks for sharing and have a beautiful week,
Lisa

These are great! The first one might be my fav. but the composition and texture is very eye catching in all of them. Thanks for stopping by my blog! :)
